企画アドバイザー就任のご挨拶 / Words from Production Advisor – Cherishing Musical Collaboration
日本とフィンランドの音楽交流は、驚くほど長い歴史を持っています。すでに20世紀冒頭に、ヘルシンキのカッペリなどの一流のレストランで、日本の音楽がフィンランドの軍楽隊によって演奏され、日本でも大正初期以降フィンランドの音楽が取り上げられ論じられてきました。そして100年以上を経て、両国の音楽交流は一層深まり、国際的にも「日本とフィンランドは、相互の音楽交流が最も盛んな国の一つである」とよく言われています。
しかし、本当の音楽交流は、「国と国」の間のみで成立するのではなく、常に「人と人」のつながりや尽力によるところが大きいでしょう。両国の音楽交流が盛んになったのも、代々その架け橋となることを強く望んだ日本人とフィンランド人がいたからです。その点において、私たち現代人にも重要な責任があると信じています。
情報通信技術の進歩によって、21世紀に入り世界が本格的に国際化したと言われますが、私はその考えに異議を唱えています。なぜならば、技術がいくら発展しても、文化や言語の壁を完全に乗り越えることはできないからです。そのため、現代の国際社会でも「人」の尽力が依然として不可欠です。
それゆえ、日本・フィンランド新音楽協会が日本とフィンランドの音楽界を結ぶ架け橋として重要な役割を果たすと考えています。協会に携わる人々は、この時代にふさわしいオンライン企画やその他現代のメディアによって、新たなつながりや音楽的発見を生み出す可能性を秘めていると思います。私自身、日本の音楽界とのご縁に心より感謝するとともに、これからの日本人とフィンランド人の音楽交流を大事にしていきたいと思います。

Musical exchange between Japan and Finland has a remarkably long history. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, Japanese music was performed by the Finnish military band in prestigious restaurants such as Kappeli in Helsinki, and Finnish music has been performed and discussed in Japan since the early Taisho period. More than 100 years later, the musical exchange between the two countries has deepened even further, and it is often said even in foreign countries that no other country has as active a musical exchange as Japan and Finland.
However, true musical exchange is not established between “countries” but always takes place through “people-to-people” connections and efforts. The reason why musical exchange between the two countries has flourished is because there have been Japanese and Finnish people who have had the will to build such a bridge from generation to generation. I feel that we also modern people have a great responsibility to do so.
It is sometimes said that developments in information and communication technology have made the world of the 21st century truly international, but I have long believed this to be a misconception. This is because no matter how much technology has developed, it does not have the power to overcome cultural and language barriers. For this reason, even in today’s world, the efforts of people are always essential.
Therefore, I believe that the JFCMS plays an important role as a bridge between the music worlds of Japan and Finland. This is because I believe that the society has the potential to create new connections and musical discoveries through “online projects” and other means appropriate to this era. I am sincerely grateful for my relationship with the Japanese music world, and would also like to cherish the future musical exchange between Japanese and Finnish people.
